The East Coast Party Band was founded in 1991 by Jack Tankersly & Mike Shuler. Jack had been the co-leader of The Rivieras for the previous fourteen years. The entire rhythm section of The Rivieras joined the Party Band at that time and has remained intact allowing the same musicians to perform together for over twenty consecutive years. This long-standing core provides a solid musical base which anchors the foundation of all arrangements. Within the rhythm section are the two main voices of the group, Jerry Polk & David Fuller. The recent addition of outstanding entertainer, Mark Black, has added yet another excellent vocalist to the mix, giving The Party Band a trio of vocalist unparalleled in the region. When joined by the horn section and complemented with tight vocal harmonies, eighty-minute sets of continuous dance music are brought to life.
The East Coast Party Band has become one of the most popular dance bands in the Southeast. South Carolina dancers (Shaggers) enjoy the consistent tempo the band is known for, which all experienced shaggers appreciate. The Party Band is best described as an "old-fashioned" soul band covering classics by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and The Four Tops.
All eight members have full-time careers in other fields, which means the Party Band comes alive on weekends. The Party Band is renowned for its energetic performances helping any party/event become a success.
