The first thing you notice about Underhill Rose is the undeniable synchronicity of the two beautiful ladies, Eleanor and Molly Rose, who founded the band. Their songs and heartfelt enthusiasm are magnetic and their vocal harmonies make most think they are sisters. From their days at Warren Wilson College, to the formation of a sweet and sultry quartet called the Barrel House Mamas, to the eventual dissolution of the Mamas, these two ladies have been through thick and thin, and all-along have remained friends. Not to mention their poppin' band, friends Gary and Tim on bass and drums, respectively, who pull-in audiences with their joyful stage presence and obvious love of the music. Eleanor Underhill is the banjo-playing soul singer from Virginia known for her award-winning honest songs laden with magical imagery. It's hard to know how many new songs this creative fire has up her sleeve because they are her children, and she only pulls them out when absolutely sure the song will be done justice. Not to mention the soulful jazzy vocals of this charismatic lady: musicians near and far request her as a guest vocalist because of her beautiful voice, relaxed attitude, and incredible focus. That said, the captivating Eleanor is affected deeply by music, and at some times feels that it rules her life. Molly Rose Reed is the sultry smooth voice that takes a song to other depths with her smoky lows to her clear, gorgeous high notes. Her bright, welcoming smile is enough to make anyone want to be in her presence, and has been the subject of many a swooning fan's interest. Rather shy at times, Molly Rose is able put that aside in order to light up a stage with her powerful feeling and winsome heart while singing and picking her guitar. Not to mention that the songs she writes come from a place of deep contemplation, and while not prolific in quantity, they are crowd stunners. For Molly Rose, music is her everyday companion and gentle teacher.

Eleanor and Molly Rose share musical roots, too. Both born southerners, their musical inspiration spanned the genres during the budding hip/hop genres to the timeless folk rock of the 1960's. As they got older, their tastes began to inlude American roots music. These hippie-hearted ladies were led to the mountains of Western North Carolina in the early 2000s to attend Warren Wilson College, a school devoted to the concept of helping cultivate a whole person through intellect, work, and service. Warren Wilson did just what it promises for the ladies of Underhill Rose: it helped grow a sense of how they could contribute to making the world a better place. While they view their lives as works in progress, both have decided for now that to live as an artist is their best way for them personally to live a life of work, service, and intellectual pursuits.

Underhill Rose boasts a unique sound built of original songs and heartfelt singing in a genre they like to call country-soul. From trips playing festivals around the Southeast and making jaunts across the country, Eleanor and Molly Rose have held the captive audience of the producers of FOX television, Amos Lee, Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls, members of PFUNK, the Emmit-Nershi Band, members of Phish, and not to mention, their dear friends and fans. They have collaborated with blues guitarist Shane Pruitt, Floating Action, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Big Daddy Love, the Everyone Orchestra, Eliza Lynn and there will certainly be more to come!
