LeAnn Rimes ARTIST ID:
Working with producer/songwriters Peter Amato, Desmond Child, and Gregg Pagani, Rimes' new album represents a major stylistic departure for the 19-year-old, who originally broke through in the country and Christian music markets. That trademarked vocal now wraps itself around anthemic arena-rockers (the autobiographical first single "Life Goes On" and "Suddenly"), insightful songs of full hope and optimism ("Sign of Life" and "You Made Me Find Myself"), R&B/funk ("Trouble With Goodbye"), swamp-blues ("Twisted Angel") and even seductive, dance-floor techno ("Tic Toc").
"I had so much to say for this record," says Rimes, who credits attending a writing camp in Miami with ten fellow songwriters for helping focus the material. "All the songs have a relationship to my life because I had input into all of them, even the ones I didn't specifically write. I went in, spilled my guts and told them, 'This is what I've gone through and this is what I want to sing about.' I was involved in every part of the process, which turned out to be an amazing experience. This is the first time I've been allowed to completely explore and do the things I wanted to do musically." Songs like "Life Goes On," "Wound Up," "Suddenly," "Sign of Life," "No Way Out," "You Made Me Find Myself" and the title track deal directly with Rimes' journey to discover her own identity, both as a person and a performer.
