Groove Spot ARTIST ID: 10302
Founded in March of 1997, Groove Spot has performed to packed houses up and down the East Coast and is a fixture of the Richmond club scene. Flamboyant costumes, tongue-in-cheek antics, and pure energy all characterize this disco extravaganza once described as "stripping down disco classics to their booty-shaking basics." By the way, these guys can play...most members have college music degrees. "Most people think that we're too young to remember disco in the 70's," says bassist Greg Hill, 32, "But some of our fondest memories growing up were those times spent in the roller skating rinks grooving to these songs after hitching rides with our older brothers."
"Disco has a mass appeal to all audiences," quips the band's frontman, Sean Shields, 25. "Older audience members love to reminisce - even if they hated disco the first time. Younger listeners are familiar with the songs by way of their parents, television, or newer songs that use elements of the classics," adds Shields. The bands performs five shows a week on average, from clubs and frats to corporate parties and weddings. They have appeared with national act Cracker and at several large outdoor festivals. Groove Spot is transported to their gigs on a tour bus once owned by country legend Merle Haggard. One step on the bus and you'll see that these guys take their disco very seriously. "When we get on this bus to head to a show, it's the `70's as far as we're concerned. We pop in the 8 tracks, put on the platform shoes, and we're ready to boogie!" says Hill.
If you're ready to have a great time and dance to that pulsating disco beat...or just sit back and watch the extravaganza take place...Groove Spot is a must see. You gotta GROOVE, Spot, GROOVE!
