Gary Johns was born and raised in the very neighborhood of Sun, Stax, and Hi studios. Despite many opportunities in NYC and LA, Gary has stayed in the city he loves, Memphis, Tennessee. Made in Memphis was recorded at Hi Studios in the summer of 1999 under the watchful eye of Willie Mitchell. Poppa Willie is the mastermind behind Hi Records and has produced the likes of Al Green, Ann Peebles, Tina Turner, Keith Richards, Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, and many others.
